History

Senepol Cattle have been a fixed breed for almost a century. The two breed composite was developed on the island of St Croix in the Caribbean at the beginning of the 20th Century by crossing the N’Dama, a native Tropical Bos Taurus of Senegal, equatorial West Africa, with the British Breed, Red Poll. The result of this infusion was the combining of the N’Dama’s superior tropical traits of heat and parasite resistance and the ability to thrive on poor forage with the carcass qualities, high fertility, feed efficiency, quiet nature and renowned maternal and milking ability of the Red Poll. Senepol cattle are slick coated, naturally polled and solid red in colour.
Tests by the United States Department of Agriculture have demonstrated Senepol’s ability to pass on desirable characteristics like heat tolerance and endophyte resistance to the F1 Progeny making these progeny valuable for either grass or feedlot finishing systems.

We produce an animal that has practical fertility that underpins profitability.
